A grudge Match is sort of a pre-match to a bigger, more exclusive match. Like if Batista was facing Taker for the title at Backlash (as he is) and they had a match against each other on the Smackdown before Backlash, it would be a grudge match. A grudge match can also be a match between rivals.

That's not what a grudge match is... any contest or competition that is based on antipathy or grudges held by participants. Grudge matches are put together to settle a grudge.
